I am not unethical. Why? I briefly reiterate what's in my lengthy rebuttal:

1). Fairbanks told him to remove an element in his syllabi dealing with extra credit. Dwyer obeyed the very next day and announced to each class that extra credit was no longer available. Fairbanks says he didn’t do as directed. Fairbanks lied. He did.

2). Fairbanks told him to remove another element in his newly-approved-by-the-College Board AP syllabus. This was an optional writing assignment on the released-from-death row Gregory Capehart. Dwyer immediately complied. No student ever saw the new syllabus (for next year). Nevertheless, Fairbanks says Dwyer didn’t do as directed. Fairbanks lied. He did.

3). Furthermore, Fairbanks accuses Dwyer of not obeying school field trip policy in taking an “unsanctioned fieldtrip” to Miami on November 30, 2007, endangering students. Dwyer contends he did not take a field trip. He took an approved day of personal leave and notified students that there would be no School Related Activity (SRA) excuses for absences for anyone choosing to travel with him to a march in Miami for the poor workers in Immokalee. CIW provided transportation for 10 junior and senior students who came with parents’ written permission. Fairbanks lied. Dwyer didn't endanger students.

4). Perhaps most egregiously, Fairbanks accuses Dwyer of not permitting students to leave his English classes for office requests from administrative, guidance, or attendance offices. Dwyer contends he has never disallowed any students from leaving his class for any reason. Fairbanks says Dwyer forbids any absence from his class. He lies. Dwyer never disallows students to leave his classroom.

In addition to this 3-day OSS, John has suffered other inconveniences at the hands of Mr. Fairbanks. He's been required not to teach his AP class on 4 other occasions. He’s been interrupted from grading papers during his planning time by being called down to the principal’s office on scores of occasions since October. His Shakespeare Academy has been forbidden to put on any plays in the school auditorium. He’s been required to change his screen name in the Comments section of the Naples Daily News. He is now required to submit all writing assignments to Principal Fairbanks for prior approval. (None of them may deal with the Corporal Works of Mercy). He’s required to give class participation points for students while they are not present in class. He may not accept books donated to the English Department by students. He is gagged: “directed not to take class time or other time to discuss the subject of this discipline.” He has his lunch duty replaced with four duties outside in front of the school after the last bell. He is reprimanded for teaching during a prank fire alarm associated with the student walkout over schedule changes. He is reprimanded for objecting to class time used for police sessions preaching the dangers of the internet; for objecting to class time used for Jerry Berry’s preaching regarding alcohol, drugs, and sex; for objecting to class time used for a mandatory session with Herff Jones advertisers. He is reprimanded for complaining about class time used for a hypnotist/ magician performance. He is reprimanded for supporting the Coalition of Immokalee Workers. He is reprimanded for paying two professional actors, a choreographer, a costume designer, and a fencing coach to intensively prepare 25 students for the 8 performances of Macbeth put on the Lely stage in November. He’s being kicked out of his classroom after this year.

Lots of reprimands for someone who successfully prepares and recommends students to Yale, Harvard, Princeton, Boston University, Notre Dame, USAFA, USMA, USNA, St. Lawerence, Middlebury, Pamona, New College, USF, U of F, UCF, and many others.

Maybe it was all about not kissing Mickey's hoof (as Gulliver does his master's at the end of Book IV)?
