School board attorneys, Mr. Fishbane and Mr. Withers, wield great clout over the board members.

In this United States of Amnesia, I wonder if Collier readers can remember the whole way back to last weekend. Jeff Lytle wrote "School chief sends message to TV caller." What's wrong in that article is the same thing that's wrong here.

Superintendent Thompson exposed himself to take public questions, picks out that the caller is a CCPS teacher, and behaves as if the teacher works for him and must be obedient to him. Mr. Briscoe has worked here for years before Collier was on Dr. Thompson's radar.

The Superintendent is not the CEO, not the boss, not the commanding officer. CCPS employees have the students and their parents as their boss.

The Superintendent works at the pleasure of the same people. He can claim no superiority as to academic rank, longevity, or even responsibility. CCPS is not a corporation; it is not the military; nor is it a plantation.

Neither are schools factories, and neither the quality control model of assembly lines nor following code in construction is imitable in classrooms.

This is all the result of the hornets’ nest stirred up by politicians in passing the NCLB.

Pulling in more and more fascists (whose philosophy is embracing demagogues like Schlechty and Daggett) and placing them in positions of power is not solving any problems. Instead of improvement, we have a clash of the Titans. Who gains in the end? Ah, the war mongers.
