This article implies that teachers have stubbornly refused the State of Florida's generous offer of money for salaries. That is a false implication. By couching our objection only in a quotation by Mr. Farmar, Katherine Lewis appeals to the anti-union proclivities of Neapolitans. We need far more than the two million offered by the DOE and we need it for everyone. The State is attempting to "save money" by throwing a nearly bare bone among hungry dogs.

We teachers refuse to attack each other for the sake of taking an unfair share of such a pittance. Mr. Hamblett's disappointment with our vote should be attenuated with the disgust deserved by the State's attempt to foist upon us yet another merit pay scheme. Collier County teachers deserve better.
