Colonel Thompson "saved" over $3 million by firing the custodians (refusing to save $14 million by accepting Teamsters' health insurance for the district--and by refusing to search for other health insurance bids). He saved $3 million by changing the high school schedule from 4 x 4 to 7 50 minute periods per day. He saved more than $3 million by eliminating experienced teachers on DROP--and others with big ticket educations by administrative harassment. He obtained $3 million by the voters' Referendum to switch capital to operating funds. That's at least $12 million "saved."
He wants to save $3 million more by rezoning instead of installing portables. What's the big beef about not giving the students and parents what they want with regard to rezoning? I've taught as many years in portables (at NHS, BCHS, and LHS) as I did in "real" classrooms. Except for rainy day class changes, the portables were excellent classrooms.
Colonel Thompson and his disciplined control over his administrators and school board on this issue could easily be changed from opposing the community's will to accommodating it.
A mere $3 million out of a budget exceeding $1 billion is a small price to pay to uphold democracy and the will of the parents, students and people at large.
Only the "suck it up" ex-Marines and the regular complainers charging "whining" are _for_ Colonel Thompson's current rezoning plan.
A little sign of humanity on his part would be very welcome by almost everyone. |
